Charli Suttyn: 18 Months (Late!)

*"Dank u" is one of the sweetest things you say. Recently though you've started saying "Tha thu" (I guess you're at least trying to make the "t" sound!)

*You love to carry around your little toothbrush and toothpaste, asking everyone in sight to apply some more toothpaste to your brush once you've sucked it all off.  That usually happens at least 10 times a day and your sister is such a good sport about it.  Me....not so much.  Needless to say, we go through LOTS of your toothpaste!

*You are as bow-legged and pigeon-toed as they come still, but good Lord it's cute.

*When you walk, you swing your left arm pretty vigorously and you usually have on your pink boots.  It is quite a sight!

*You love your little board books!  Sometimes you like to sit in Ansley's pink chair and read to yourself, but most days you ask for one of us to read to you.  And who could say no to the sweetest little face, especially when you nudge your way into our laps and say "mor mor".  Those are some of my favorite moments with you!

*You are taking 2 naps a day still (most days) and you sleep from about 8:30/9 until about 8:30/9.  I'm wondering how that will change once you and Ansley share a room. Yikes.

*You are wearing a size 4 diaper and usually 18-24 month clothes.  Your long legs usually need the length of 2T, but thankfully you are able to wear most of Ansley's clothes and we've even been putting on some 3T leggings because we have them.  The hand-me-downs continue!

*Babies have been a BIG deal around here lately.  You're usually carrying and mothering one at all times! You love to put them in the high chair, feed them, and most likely you've got one of them swaddled up in a blanket.  You are quite the little mommy!

*You love to swing outside on our playground and usually you'll put on your coat and head for the door.  Good thing it's normally locked because you'd go right on out without me!

*You are so independent (you actually should have been our firecracker baby!).  You want no help from any of us with eating, walking, or.....anything really.  This makes for some interesting stand offs between us.  Most of the time though, I'm weak. :/

*You will finally give us kisses and hugs when we request it!  I can't even explain how exciting this is for all of us.  We love some LOVE from our Charli girl!

Charli, you are so fun.  You are stubborn and sassy, but oh so sweet too.  What a joy you are little girl!

Charli Suttyn: 16 Months

*You're walking like a BOSS and sometimes in a full on sprint!  Your little bow-legged walk is so fun to watch.  You're cautious, yet sturdy.  :)

*At your 15 month check you weighed 24 lbs (67%) and you are 31.5 inches (80%). Growing strong!

*You are understanding so many things these days.  It's so interesting to see the change in behavior and your actions once the little lightbulb goes off.  :)

*Still a squealer though!  That sure hasn't changed.  Can't wait for you to be able to verbalize you're feelings!

*Your sister knows exactly how to get you to giggle AND squeal.  There are moments that you love each other and laugh uncontrollably at one another.  Then there are times when hugs and playing together is not your thing!  You are usually the one calling the shots and your big sis takes whatever she can get.  :)

*You're starting to be interested in TV.  You are now stopping for a few seconds to see what all the cartoon hype is all about, but only for Barney and Yo Gabba Gabba.  Then off you go to the next thing!

*You love granola and raisin bran cereal, grapes, raisins, apples, and you're warming up to bananas.

*Everything is "UH" or "UH HUH" and you LOVE to shake your head yes and no (yes is in slow motion and no is as fast as it can be!).  You've gotten "momma" down for sure! And we figure one of these days say all the rest. Ha!

*You are the cutest tiny dancer I've EVER seen.  The folks around town are starting to witness and hear about your adorable moves (hula/knee bend).  The word is out.

*You LOVE to be read to!  You bring us all books with the sweetest little smile on your face.  How could ANYONE say no to that?!

*You always wear your personalized little sister bracelet.  Everyday, everywhere we go. I think you're pretty proud of it. ;)

Charli, you are such a spunky little thing and we couldn't imagine our lives without you.  Your smile is contagious and you're such a little charmer!  We love you so much sweet girl!

Our Sweet Angel....Adler Augustus.

I'm really not even sure how to start this post. I have started and stopped writing it several times and the emotions are so unbelievably raw that's it's almost unbearable to talk about it, but I know I need to.  I know that one day I'll want to look back at this moment in our lives and know that The Lord has restored us from what we are now.  I'm claiming that restoration now!
Our story started with a great surprise, we found out we were pregnant with our 3rd baby and we hadn't even been intentional about trying....no medicine, no doctors, just a beautiful surprise.  We couldn't believe it...it was so shocking, but we were so thankful. What seemed like a normal pregnancy ended so very quickly and so unfortunately in our 18th week.
Jason and I had the opportunity to travel to St. Louis for a St. Francis retreat the weekend of October 11th. What started off as a wonderful weekend full of lots of laughs, some great quality time for the two of us...ended really abruptly and without much warning at all. I woke up Sunday morning with some unusual, mild cramping. It wasn't anything horrible or even really uncomfortable, just a little worrisome. I had some dark spotting (which I knew was somewhat normal for me) and a little bit of back cramping too, which reminded me of my labor with Ansley (specifically when I was dilated to a 6 before an epidural). However, I quickly dismissed it because I thought maybe our late night eating on the rooftop of the hotel had led to some other reasons for cramping. I had no idea how our lives would change in that next hour. We headed down to the breakfast area and relaxed for about 20 minutes when I had the most unusual flip happen in my stomach. It was as if the baby had somersaulted in my womb and I hadn't really felt much of the baby up until the point. I turned to Jason and said "something is seriously wrong with the baby".  As he was telling me to head upstairs, I was already at the door. I needed to go to the bathroom and I knew it wasn't going to be good. I can remember running into several people I knew with tears streaming down my face...I tried to be as cordial as possible, all the while knowing that something was dreadfully wrong. I was right. When I reached the room, I headed straight for the bathroom where I was losing bright red blood this time and lots of fluid. This time the tears turned into screams and within minutes Jason had arrived in the room. He saw that I was hysterical, so he immediately prayed with me and then called our friends the Ogburns, who had been on the trip with us. They hurried to our room where I was at this point lying on the bed screaming for God's help. We both were. Meredith and Alex immediately started praying and we were all huddled in the bed asking for The Lord's provision. After several prayers, Alex left the room to get ahold of our OBGYN who was also at the retreat with us. Unfortunately she had already left the hotel, but she instructed us to head to the hospital immediately. I remember saying to Meredith...the baby is not ok. And she said, do you KNOW that? And I knew, but I didn't want to speak it...fearing it would happen (as if God's plan hadn't already been laid out).  At one point I remember Meredith asking me "so has the Holy Spirit told you?!" Yes. He had. It was that flip or somersault in my stomach at breakfast...I knew that was my goodbye. My mind knew it, but my heart didn't want to believe it.  Jason was hurriedly gathering our clothes and things as I stood to go to the restroom one more time, I told Meredith..."I need to go back in the bathroom before we leave, but I'm so afraid to." Unfortunately the details of what happened next is too much for me to blog about but just know it was horrific and traumatic for all of us. And from that point on, the trip became a blur and I haven't completely been able to lift the fog since then unfortunately.  I do know that in those crazy moments following....we cried out to God for a solid 20 minutes in that hotel room, pleading for His mercy.  I remember my cries as I was holding tight to Jason...."You are fearfully and wonderfully made.  Your works are wonderful I know this full well!" Jason and I didn't let go of one another for that entire time. It was an embrace that I will never forget. We screamed, we questioned, we pleaded with God, but it was done.  Just like that.  I had delivered our precious 18 week old baby and it was intense. In that very second, our expectations and excitement for the arrival of our sweet baby were gone.  There was such a broad range of emotions that completely consumed me in that moment.  I was angry, heartbroken, confused, and empty all woven together in an awful mess. However, in the midst of this horrific storm as the weeping and grieving continued, I can remember in that very moment feeling a peace that was absolutely unexplainable.  "I need you, God! Right now, I need you!".  And then Jason sweetly whispered in my ear..."He's right here.  He's right here with us."  And He was.  We both could feel it and we knew He had not forsaken us.  It was as if He gently reminded me in that very moment that I...no one else...was entrusted to carry this baby for all his intended days here on the Earth, but now He needed him.  As much as that truth was healing for me, I was still a mess and the trauma of it all was just too much.  But even more than the trauma and grief of losing our baby, I ached to see the girls.  I can remember my mind shifting directly to them even in the darkness of it all.  How would we ever explain this to Ansley?  Charli would not remember really, but Ansley.....my heart was hurting for her so intensely.  She was so excited for this baby.  She had prayed intently for this baby, asked about him daily, and told everyone we were having a boy (even though we didn't know).  She couldn't wait to feel the baby kicking in the coming weeks and was so excited about our new baby adventure. As if losing the baby wasn't enough, there was this deep additional wound that I had never imagined would hurt so badly.  But as bad as I hurt for her, she hurt for us.  She knew we were so sad and her sensitive little spirit has been a light in this dark time.  She has encouraged, loved, and hugged us through this.  And little Charli has been the spunky smile that we've needed to get through these gloomy days also.  Her contagious laugh and her soft kisses have been good for our souls. Lord, we do NOT take for granted the miracles you've already blessed us with.  We ask that you overwhelm us with comfort in the coming months and years.  We need you more than ever.

Jesus has our precious baby in His arms, surrounded by angels for a glorious sight there in Heaven.  A sight that I cannot wait to one day behold.  Our baby is whole, without impurities, AND he never had to experience sin or any other pain from this world.  He actually had the best ride, a trip straight to Heaven.
Lord, how you know....we long to see his little face again.

Isaiah 40:28-31
Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Maeryn's Arrival

I've had some very special pictures tucked away ever since our friends came home with their adoptive daughter, Maeryn.  I know this sounds strange, but I forget that she's even adopted some days.  I actually think she looks more like her momma than the other Mayhew kiddos do.  Ha!  Heather just posted yesterday that they've been home for 2 months and I can't even believe it!  It seems like it was just yesterday!  She is such a precious addition to their little family and we are so thrilled to see how their new journey with 4 kiddos plays out.
Here they are landing at the Cape airport
And seeing their kiddos for the first time in 2 weeks!

Lots of hugs and kisses all around
So happy to have them home safely!
 Here's the star, Maeryn
The kids loved meeting her for the very first time
My little family taking in the moment

I love that everyone was sporting their shirts!

Unfortunately, it was a hectic drive to the airport for the Bandermanns.  We thought their flight came in an hour later than it really did and I was crying thinking that I was going to miss their arrival.  Needless to say, the trip to the airport was so stressful!  Whew! I would have been devastated to miss that sweet moment!  So thankful we are surrounded by friends that have answered this AMAZING call on their lives.  :)

Lazy L Safari

We took a quick trip to Lazy L last week with some of our buddies.
Ansley and Charli both are such animal lovers.  It's so sweet how they interact with them.
 Charli was loving the birds
And this girl liked the monkeys!
It was all fun and games until a goat tries to eat your toes!
We had a little incident with the bag of food (a goat ate Ansley's bag and all!), so the girls had to resort to some good ole fashion petting.  :)

 Fun times at Lazy L!

Ansley and Charli's First Day of School!

It seems so weird to have 2 little munchkins going to school at once.  Ansley is in Pre-K (for realz) and Charli is going one day a week to Mother's Day Out.  I can't even believe our lives right now.  I'm still wondering how I'm even old enough to have 2 kiddos!  Geez.
Our pretty little girl with her cowboy boots on of course!
Ansley and Daddy
The girls before Charli's 1st day and Ansley's 2nd. I did make Charli a sign but the thought of juggling her and a sign with all their school stuff was not worth it.  Sorry Char.  On your first day of Pre-K I promise I'll have a sign for you!:)
Charli's not so sure about this.....
Both girls did really well and Ansley was so excited to go back each day. Can't believe these girls are getting so big!  Praying for both girls as they learn and grow and interact with their teachers and friends.  It's gonna be a great year!

Our trip to the USAT National Triathlon in Milwaukee

Jason and Ryan recently qualified for the USAT National Triathlon in Milwaukee this past weekend.  Instead of vacations, we go to triathlons.  Ha!  Once we got to town, we of course had to go to the Expo.  These boys LOVE to buy their tri stuff there.  You know...their goo (energy gel), the sport of seeing how much free stuff you can get (this trip was free compression socks), and look around at all the fun accessories.  They're like little school girls. :)
The boys heading to the Expo with their bikes to set up in transition

Then we headed back to our hotel to check in and relax a bit before going to dinner.  However, when we got to our hotel they told us that our room wasn't ready yet.  Boo! So we sat and sat and sat....for almost 2 hours!  Finally they gave us the all clear, so we headed up to collapse on the beds for a little R & R.  We were so ready.  However, we found the room was NOT clean and it looked as though someone had a pillow fight before they left!  Needless to say, Jason got out his customer service speech and we got $80 worth of free breakfast vouchers.  Woo hoo!
The next morning...the pregnant gluttons got their eat on.  For real.  This was our free breakfast and it was just for Whit and I!
After shoving all the glorious food in our mouths, we headed to the start of the race.  I should mention that we DID NOT eat half of it, but saved most of it for the boys and packed a few to go items for our trek to the start line.
We were thankfully able to catch up with the boys before they got in the water.  Jason and I before the race...notice my free smoothie :)
Jason and Ryan's swim heat.  This is actually only half of them!
Jason rounding a corner on his bike.  Not sure why his feet aren't in his shoes???
Transition!
And the finish!  Ryan was kind enough to hang with Jason for the last leg of the run and they got to finish together.
Pushing through the finish!
They were feeling so accomplished
Not only was finishing the triathlon at all a HUGE feat, but finishing 2nd in the Clydesdale division is amazing!  I was such a proud wife.  Next thing I'm sure I'll hear from Jason...."I need some tats like that dude!"
My tough and adorable hubby :)
It was so neat to see the boys finish another big triathlon.  They are truly amazing!  Looking forward to the next fun trip with friends!
